Emotions should not be avoided, but they can be so loud and exhausting they're difficult to control. One day, while I was in the middle of a flood of frustration and despair, the Holy Spirit whispered to me to tell my emotions to be quiet. He had something to speak to me, and I wasn't listening. So, like Jesus commanded the Sea of Galilee, the Holy Spirit helped me quiet my internal storm. My heart immediately filled with peace and hope, and I was able to listen to the wisdom waiting for me. My circumstances had not changed, but the relief was real. It was miraculous!
I wrote the following as a reminder of the work God did for me that day. There's no comfort like what The Holy Spirit offers, and I pray that you experience the same peace in your own heart!
Emotions, be quiet.
You are fast friends with worry, fear, and doubt.
In trying to protect me from disappointment and sorrow,
my mind has led me straight to them.
Instead, let me listen.
I want to hear the streams of renewal, life, and promise.
Let me step forward in confidence because I have wisdom.
Let me run fast because I have vision.
Who is this that commands me now?
It's the voice who called me out of darkness and into light.
Through Him all things were made, and now He is making me whole.
